Golden Oldies 2012 - Sat 7th January 2012
Hi All
A Very Happy New Year to you all.
2012 could be a massive year for Studley Royal Cricket Club. We could make our first appearance at Lords and send a team on an international tour to Australia.
We have entered into the National Village Cup – The Cup Final is at Lords.
We want to enter a team into the Air New Zealand 2012 Golden Oldies in Adelaide.
These two events on top of everything else at the Club. Oh and the Olympics are also on this year.
I have received some definite interest in going to Australia in late November early December, but many more have shown some interest but it is now getting to the time of commitment. I also have some Australian players who played at Studley Royal in the 2010 Golden Oldies who would like to make Guest Appearances for us.
I have attached a Briefing Sheet from Sir Thomas Ingilby which will answer many of the questions you may have. We want to send a team from Studley Royal.
If you are really interested in making this fantastic trip become a reality please either e-mail or telephone me so that I can arrange an Australia Meeting towards the end of January.
We need to make a firm commitment and to start a saving scheme to ensure all costs are covered.
If you wish to forward this to any other interested parties please feel free to do so.
We can make this happen, and take Studley Royal Cricket Club to Australia.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Ken Coad
Golden Oldies World Cricket Festival, Adelaide 2012
1.Itinerary:
Sunday 25th November:
All the teams arrive in Adelaide
Team manager’s briefing
Opening ceremony and parade of the nations at the Adelaide Oval
Welcome Party
Monday 26th:
First round of matches
Tuesday 27th:
Mid week picnic day (at one of the vineyards?, with wives / partners) lunch and entertainment
Wednesday 28th:
Second round of matches
Thursday 29th:
Day of leisure with optional sightseeing trips
Friday 30th.
Third round of matches
Saturday 1st December
Debriefing meeting for team managers
Finale Dinner and Air New Zealand Awards
Sunday 2nd December:
Teams depart home, or stay on to enjoy some more Australian sunshine.
Suggestions:
Indoor nets will be arranged for the quad before we leave for Australia: we won’t have played for at least ten weeks when we get there.
I would strongly recommend arriving earlier than Sunday morning: jet lag will kick in for the first 3-4 days and it would be useful to be able to acclimatize a bit, get used to the sunlight and arrange a net practice / friendly match before the festival starts.
2.Costs:
The cost will depend where we choose to stay. We have a choice of a full range of hotels and apartments, ranging from motel to five star luxury. Surprisingly there isn’t a huge difference in the cost. The package cost isn’t just for your hotel rooms: it includes everything that’s listed below:
The following figures are worked out on the current exchange rate: 1 AUD = £0.66 or £1 = 1.50 AUD. The prices given below will alter in line with the currency fluctuation.
The package (7 nights, 8 days) will currently cost £1257 -1555 per person, subject to which hotel(s) we choose.
Return flights to Adelaide from London Heathrow are currently being quoted at around £700-750. For those who wish to upgrade (it’s a 21+ hour flight, with one short stopover) I have seen offers of £1200 for premium economy, £1800 for business class and £2400 for first class.
The basic cost is therefore likely to be:
Package Cost £1257 - £1555
Flight cost £750
Total £2,007 – 2,305 per person
With meals / transport / sightseeing etc you are probably looking at around £2,500 – 2,800 per head, or £5,000 - £5,600 per couple.
3.The Package Includes:
Seven nights accommodation (room only)
Parade of the Nations and Opening Ceremony (Sunday)
Welcome Party (Sunday evening) – 3 hour function inclusive of substantial finger buffet, beer, wine, soft drinks and entertainment
Personality of the Day medallions (one per team per match)
Sir Donald Bradman Museum free entry
3 days of cricket against international opposition, inc. team lunch and match fee
Air conditioned coach transfers to and from the 3 matches, the grand parade / welcome party, picnic day and finale dinner
Hospitality and information desks at selected hotels
Midweek picnic day (Tuesday): lunch, beer, wines, soft drinks and entertainment: approx 4 hours.
Grand Finale Dinner and Air New Zealand Awards: 5 hour function including three course dinner, beer, wine, soft drinks and entertainment, dancing.
Festival souvenir (useful festival branded sports bag at Harrogate)
Four editions of ‘Caught Short’ the festival’s up-to-the-minute colour newsletter
4.The Package Doesn’t Include;
International and domestic flights
Transport to / from the airport (not far)
Meals and drinks other than as specified above (ie. cricket lunches, 3 festival events)
Single supplement for accommodation
Airport departure taxes
Sightseeing tours
Personal expenditure: phone calls, laundry, drinks, room charges etc
Travel / medical insurance
Porterage
Any additional taxes that may be in place at the time of the festival.
Team outfit (but see note below)
Car hire
5.Travel and Medical Insurance:
It will be a condition of you traveling with the party that you take out the appropriate travel and medical insurance as soon as you commit to the tour. The deposit will be non refundable.
6.Team Outfit:
We have just over £3000 left in the kitty from the 2010 festival and propose to use this to subsidize the cost of our team outfits – for players and wives / partners. We want a strong team identity out there!
7.Sightseeing / Things to do on days off:
Retail therapy at the Randle Mall shopping centre (city centre: within walking distance of hotels)
Sunbathing on the beach at Glelelg (20 minutes from hotels by tram)
Casino
Festival Centre (concerts etc)
Vineyards: Barossa Valley (45 mins by car), Clare Valley, MacLaren Valley, Petaluma and Penfolds vineyards (just out of city)
Adelaide Botanic Gardens
Adelaide Zoo
Kangaroo Island
Flinders Range
Dolphin watching, Port Adelaide
Sir Donald Bradman Museum
Central market (very colourful)
Come and support the teams: seats on the bus have been allocated for wives / partners and they wil also have been included in the catering numbers for each match. They are also included in the welcome parade, Welcome Party, Picnic Day and Finale Dinner plans.
8.Hotels / Apartments:
Once we know roughly how many people will be travelling with our party, we send the details to Air New Zealand. We can also let them know which hotel(s) / apartments we would prefer to be accommodated in. The Destination Management Company, who book the rooms for us, look at the size of our group, see what rooms they have left where, and book us in. The sooner we book, the more likely we are to get the hotel(s) of our choice. The last teams to book in tend to get given the worst accommodation
Research on the internet (looking at the hotel’s own websites and Trpadvisor) leads me to believe that the Sebel Playford is the best hotel on offer: Tripadvisor currently rates it as Adelaide’s best hotel. It has three restaurants, a lounge bar, business centre, tour desk, DIY guest laundry facility and indoor heated pool. The package there is £1525 for the week. The most expensive hotel, the Stamford Plaza, only gets a 3.5 star rating on Tripadvisor and there are numerous complaints that it is ‘tired’ and needs to be renovated and upgraded. Several of the hotels at the cheaper end are in a very dodgy area: the Paringa is opposite a very noisy all night pub, the Mercure has cleaning issues, a lot of the bedrooms at the Comfort Riviera have windows that look into a dingy internal light well and cleaning issues are reported there, too. The Rockford (4 stars on Tripadvisor) is good value and only in a ‘slightly dodgy’ area. The package there comes in at £1350 for the week, and it has a heated rooftop pool and sauna. The two Grand Chancellor hotels both rate 3.5 stars on Tripadvisor: one is noisy, the other quieter but with a ‘tired’ gym and pool, and the hotel is hard to find at the end of an alley.
There is very little difference between the cost of hotels and self-catering apartments. The best of the apartments appears to be the Franklin Central Apartments, which occupy a historic building in a good central location and have been recently updated.
The group can stay at two hotels but we need to keep everybody fairly centralized because the transport will pick us up from one specified hotel.
9.Airlines:
It is a condition of the team entry that we fly with Air New Zealand, or one of the other airlines within the Star Alliance. The airlines within the Star Alliance are:
Air New Zealand, Air Canada, Adria, Air China, ANA, Asiana, Austrian, Aegian, Austria, Blue, BMI, Continental, Croatia, Egyptair, Lufthansa, LOT (Polish), Spanair, Swissair, SAS, Singapore, South African Airways, TAM, TAP, Thai Air, Turkish, United, and US Airways.
Once we have an idea of the size of the group we will get an agent to find us the best group rate on these airlines. November / December is a busy season for flights to Australia so it’s inadvisable to leave the booking too late.
10.Visa:
Everyone will need to get an e-visa in order to enter Australia. This is easily done and only takes a few days.
11.Payment Schedule and Refund Policy:
The first deposit is AUD300 (£200) per person and due to be paid when we enter the team.
The second deposit, for the same amount, has to be paid by 25th May, 2012.
The final payment for the balance (£850-1150) is due to be paid by 25th August, 2012.
The cut-off date for team entries is 25/09/12.
You will need to pay your air fare when the tickets are booked.
The Festival’s refund policy is as follows:
Up to 25/11/11 Full
Up to 25/05/12 50%
After 25/05/12 Nil
12.Action Needed:
1)Complete the ‘Interest’ form.
2)Try and persuade as many people as you can to come with us. We want a strong Yorkshire presence in Adelaide that week!
3)As soon as you are ready to commit, contact Sir Thomas – sirthomas@ripleycastle.co.uk or 01423 770152.
4)As soon as we have enough players to fill one team, we will book that team entry and let those in the team know that their booking has been secured.
5)At that stage, those in the first team will need to pay their first £200 deposit
6)As more people confirm, we will enter more teams – the more the merrier. As each team is booked, deposits will need to be paid.
7)Ensure that you have sufficient funds to complete the payment schedule.
8)Take out travel / medical insurance (mandatory for all party members).

Annual report - Fri 11th November 2011
STUDLEY ROYAL CRICKET CLUB
2011 ANNUAL REPORT – by the CHAIRMAN and TRUSTEES
To confirm the date that is in the Club Handbook, The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 16th November 2011 at 8.00pm in the Clubhouse.
It is obviously in the best interest of the Club for as many members as possible to attend, however for those not able to be there, below is a summary of the year along with proposals received to date and the officials to be elected.
Playing
By the standards set in recent years 2011 may appear a disappointing season. However the reality is that it was another solid season with some memorable performances, highlighted by our Evening League Cup Winners and Division 1 Runners Up.
In their second season in the Premier Division of The Hunters York and District Senior League the 1st Team finished 9th and after some mid season worries ended 53 points ahead of the relegation spots. In a memorable two consecutive Saturdays in August Gary Blackburn recorded 100 not out against York repeated the following Saturday by 125 against Dunnington. Another good season by Steve Walmsley and his men in what is arguably one of the top three cricket leagues in Yorkshire.
The 2nd Team, continued under the captaincy of our youngest ever senior captain Dan Coad, followed their 2010 Division 3 Championship of the Nidderdale and District League, by finishing in a solid mid table position after pushing for promotion at stages during the season. Again we regained the position as the highest placed 2nd Team in the Nidderdale League.
The 3rd, 4th and 5th Teams all retained their current Divisional status of Divisions 5,7 and 9. Special mention should be made of the selection work of Richard Grime, and the amazing player recruitement skills of Julian Corps.
The highlight of the season was the Evening League team which was led by Martin Bean and Rob Nicholson.
Winners of The Addison Cup for the first time and also League Runners-Up for the first time to Bardsey in Division 1.. In the Cup run, Galphay & Winksley, and then Follifoot were defeated before an epic semi-final at Shadwell where they scored 106 for 7 before we replied with 106 for 6. We marched onto the final at Harrogate by virtue of losing less wickets. In the Final league winners Bardsey batted first and scored 121 for 8 but we scored 125 for 3 winning the Cup Final by 7 wickets with the Man of the Match award being won by Rob Nicholson. A season to be remembered for the Evening League team.
It was difficult to follow the first season title, as the second year of the Intermediate side in the York Senior League Intermediate Division proved less successful, but was again captained by Ben Crewe to a mid table finish.
The Junior section was again strong, with 9 teams playing this season, but silverware was in short supply.
For the first time since Junior Finals Day commenced we were not represented in the Finals at any age group.
The Indoor Cricket League saw the only silverware when the Under 11’s beat Harrogate by 4 runs in the Final with Bertie Hickey scoring 31 not out. While silverware was not forthcoming this year a great deal of good enjoyable cricket was played by our developing juniors.
Many juniors again played representative Nidderdale League matches with Josh Crewe and George Lamb captaining the Under 15 and Under 17 teams respectively. Others qualified for Yorkshire Pathway School of Excellence coaching and two continued to progress and play for Yorkshire. Ben Coad was in his second season as a contracted player for Yorkshire Academy, while Harry Lamb played at Under 14 age group. Well done to all those players.
The fourth Studley Royal Academy was held over the 2010/11 winter under the guidance of Andy Mackle and Matthew Coad. This was again a great success and will continue during the 2011/12 winter.
An Agenda point for the 2011 AGM is the possibilty of employing a part-time ex Yorkshire coach for the 2012 season. This is still at discussion stage at present.
Clubmark
Moira I’anson is now the Clubmark Secretary and meetings are planned for November, to ensure continuation of the Clubmark accreditation, with the North Yorkshire Cricket Development Officer, Ian Powell.
Finance
Quarterly accounts continue to be submitted to the Management Committee by David Gee.
The full annual accounts will be presented at the AGM when the year will show a healthy profit of over £8k. The Bar and Catering profits dropped by almost £4k between 2009 and 2010 but a slight improvement in these difficult times was recorded in 2011. The major change in 2011 was on expenditure, especially ground upkeep which reduced by over £13k
David Gee and Sue Coad have performed a very professional and detailed set of accounts, and they have been assisted by Robin Godden and Sarah Egan supplying income information.
Phillipa Oates continues to ensure much needed funds are raised by the 500 Club. New members are always required however.
The finance department is set to undergo a major change in the next financial year, as David Gee has asked to retire from the Accountant position and Sue Coad has asked to be relieved of the Treasurer duties to concentrate on her other role of Junior Secretary. David and Sue have performed these roles to a very high standard and the Club are indebted to them for the professionalism that they have shown over many years. On behalf of all club members we thank them for the fantastic role they have played, largely unseen by most, especially during some difficult financial times. Thank you David and Sue, you will be a hard act to follow.
These two importantant financial roles cannot be left vacant, so we have acted quickly and propose to nominate replacements at the AGM. We are proposing that Wendy Thornton-Coad becomes Club Accountant and Pat Ievens becomes Treasurer. Wendy is Group Accountant and Human Resources Manager at PFP Financial Services in Harrogate and Pat has acted as a Sports Club Treasurer previously and with her accountancy qualifications and working in the financial department also at PFP will ensure a job being well done. If elected I am sure we will all support them in these difficult positions.
In view of the administration and time required and considering the financial position, one proposal is to change Subscriptions and Match Fees for 2012. The other proposal is to remain as agreed at the 2010 AGM.
Revised Proposal
Subscriptions :
Seniors £35
Evening League Only players to be £15.
Subscriptions : Juniors £35 for the first child, £15 for the second child in a family and £10 for the third child in a family.
Senior Match Fees : Increase senior player match fees by £1 per match.
The Intermediate fee to remain at £5.
Junior Match Fees : The Under 9 and Under 11 fee to stay at £1, and the Under 13 to Under 17 to remain at £2.
Any other proposals should be submitted to The Chairman in advance of the AGM.
Events
The Sportsmans Dinner was again held in March, and our thanks as ever go to Steve Curtis for making this one of the memorable nights of the year.
A disappointment this season was that The Nidderdale Junior Finals were not played at Studley Royal in September. This was the first time since the introduction of a League Finals day that the matches have not been played here and Ken Coad, who temporarily stood down as Junior League Chairman this season, will attempt to recover this situation in 2012 if he resumes the role.
Communications and Sponsorship
You will have again received this Annual Report via the Club Website and E-Mail System. We still do not use this to the extent that we could, but our thanks go to Iain Shaw and Par Conception for their continuing involvement in this development.
Sponsorship has never been more important to the Club than it is today. We have made tremendous progress both on and off the field of play, but as we continue to progress the financial demands to improve facilities increases. Robert Sowray, assisted by Sarah Egan, will continue to encourage sponsorship but it is down to all members to encourage more sponsorship where ever possible as we strive to provide facilities for all our local home grown players to continue their development.
Within the last month a fantastic donation of £5000 has been received from Bob Sheldon to erect an Electronic Scoreboard. It is hoped to have this in place for the 2012 season. Again a very big Thank You to Bob.
We are delighted to again retain our three main sponsors, AMG Leisure, Ripon Timber and Ripon Interiors, but to all our sponsors we say a very big thank you for all your support.
Ground and Facilities
Trevor Rose continued his excellent start at the Club, while Steve Harris at the Deer Park did a good job in getting wickets prepared each week. They have both performed sterling work all season. Many other players have also provided excellent support, however special mention must again go to Bob Sheldon and David Craven for all of their help on the outfield at the Main Ground and David Harlock, Andy Huetson and Richard Langley must be mentioned for their Deer Park workload.
The Clubhouse management under Robin and Trudi Godden continues to generate the income which is so much needed for the progression of the Club. We ask all members to consider using, or promoting, the Clubhouse for any functions that they may be organising or attending.
If any members wish to help with bar-work, then please contact Robin who will inform you of rates of pay for the bar work and times required. The un-paid position of Assistant Clubhouse Manager is still to be filled. Robin again would be delighted to receive any volunteer nominations.

Summary
In February 2011 , Ken Coad temporarily stood down as Chairman for health reasons, and Vice Chairman David Harlock filled the position of Acting Chairman. David has performed a remarkable role and the whole membership should be pleased and proud of the role he has performed. Thank you David.
In his first season as Club Secretary, Richard Grime has performed a very important job to a very high standard, and our thanks are expressed to him for this year, and hopefully many years ahead.
2011 was again a very good season in the Club history.
What does the future hold. The 1st Team will hopefully continue to progress in The York Senior League Premier League, while our 2nd Team will continue to strive for that elusive Division One place. The 3rd 4th and 5th teams will continue for promotion in 2012, while continuing the process of junior player development into senior cricket..
Studley Royal will continue to make their mark on the Yorkshire cricket world.
The performance of the Club off the field continues to improve, and as always thank you to the large number of dedicated volunteers who continue to make this Club such a success.
Thank you for reading this Annual Report, and for your continued support.
We look forward to seeing you at the A.G.M.

Golden Oldies - Mon 13th June 2011
15th Golden Oldies Festival, Adelaide, 25 November to 2 December 2012
The next Golden Oldies Festival takes place in Adelaide next year. Last year's event hosted by us and other teams in the Nidderdale League was a huge hit. Many who were disappointed to be denied a game because they were too young can right that next year - the qualifying age is 40 or over on 26 November 2012.
There are two options for us at SRCC. Send a team; or, if we can't get enough, for individuals to go as part of the Nidderdale League's team. Details on the price and itinery may be found in the Festival brochure:
http://www.goldenoldiessports.com/assets/Golden-Oldies/Cricket-Festivals/J019166-GOC-Game-Plan-Adelaide-2012.pdf
and on the League's website: http://www.nidderdaleleague.co.uk/. In particular, see the postings on 28 Feb & 1 May.
It would be fitting to take SRCC international. Although the Festival is some way off, we'd like to start thinking about and planning our tour. Ken Coad is keen as custard to muster a cluster of committed cricketers. So let him know if you'd like to fly the Studley flag in the city of churches, fine wine and lovely parks. And Pie Floaters - What's that? Have a look http://www.thepiecart.com.au/piefloater.html

Help your skippers - Tue 17th May 2011
Our skippers do a fantastic job getting out 5 teams every weekend. The work involved in doing so cannot be underestimated. They meet each week and make more phone calls than your average call centre.
To make their job easier, please take the intiative to email, text or call them to let them know whether you can or can't play. Don't wait for them to contact you to let them know your availability. If you are not sure which of them to contact, don't let that stop you. Just get in touch with any of them and they will liaise among themselves to place players in the right team.
If your availability changes during the week, again, please take the initiative to let them know. Don't sit back thinking: "I'll let him know I can/can't play when he calls me".

NatWest Cricket Force work day, Saturday, 9 April from 10am - Wed 6th April 2011
On Saturday, 9 April, we will be undertaking work to spruce up the New and Deer Park Grounds as part of our NatWest Cricket Force Day. NatWest have provided us with 30 Cricket Force T-Shirts for those who turn up to help.
We urge as many players - juniors and seniors - and parents and friends of the club to help out to ensure that our playing facilities are in order for the new season.
Deer Park
Our priority is to repaint the exterior of the Clubhouse. Some preparatory work has been undertaken but a lot of work remains to be done. We will also need to do some minor plumbing to the loo and boiler, clean and tidy inside the clubhouse, cart away rubbish and do some work on the pitch and outfield.
For the work to the clubhouse, we'll need paint scrapers, paint burners (NB - there is no electricty at the Deer Park, so gas or fuel burners are needed), sandpaper, brushes, rollers, paint kettles & trays and ladders so, if you can bring some or all of the items, please do.
If you can attend to the plumbing, please bring some plumbing equipment.
For the work inside, we'll need brooms, dustpans and cleaning equipment. Bring a rake to help with the outfield work.
New Ground
Most of the work will be tidying and cleaning - the clubhouse, surrounds and the nets. But we also need to collect stones from the outfield, so rakes and buckets to collect stones would be needed.

Annual Report - Wed 17th November 2010
STUDLEY ROYAL CRICKET CLUB
2010 ANNUAL REPORT – by the CHAIRMAN and TRUSTEES
To confirm the date that is in the Club Handbook, The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 17th November 2010 at 8.00pm in the Clubhouse.
It is obviously in the best interest of the Club for as many members as possible to attend, however for those not able to be there, below is a summary of the year along with proposals received to date and the officials to be elected.
Playing
We seem to say this each year but, it has been the best season in the history of the Club.
In their first ever season in the Premier Division of The Hunters York and District Senior League the 1st Team finished 7th achieving some memorable results during the season, not least winning on the last day of the season to deny favourites Clifton Alliance of the title. A great achievement in what is arguably one of the top three cricket leagues in Yorkshire.
Awards were still won by the first team, with Rob Nicholson winning the best wicket-keeper award, while Steve Walmsley was voted top representative player for the York Senior League. The team also won the Premier Division Sportsmanship Trophy which is based upon umpires marks awarded during the season.
The 2nd Team, under the captaincy of our youngest ever senior captain Dan Coad, were Champions of Division 3 of the Nidderdale and District League.
The 4th Team, captained by Ken Coad, gained promotion as Runners Up of Division 8 by winning on the last day of the season.
The 3rd Team finally finished in a good position in Division 5, while the 5th Team in their first season finished a very creditable third in Division 9. Julian Corps was 5th Team captain and did a remarkable job in ensuring the success of the 5th team in its first season. The Evening League side retained their Division One status.
Another first in 2010 was the introduction of an Intermediate side in the York Senior League Intermediate Division. Captained by Ben Crewe the side went on to win the Title in this first season. Another great achievement.
The Junior section was again strong, with 11 teams playing this season, with success being achieved by the Under 13’s winning their Age Group. The Under 9 team also got to the Divisional Play-Off Finals. The Nidderdale Junior League has 10 trophies contested for, and this season 8 different Clubs were winners, so our Junior section did very well in being amongst these winners.
Indoor cricket continues to help the players during the winter months, and we were again successful in the 2009/10 season winning 2 of the 5 Age Groups. We won at Under 9 and Under 17 Age Groups.
Many juniors again played representative Nidderdale League matches, qualified for Yorkshire Pathway School of Excellence coaching and three continued to progress and played for Yorkshire. Ben Coad was transferred to play for Yorkshire Academy, while Harry Lamb and Josh Crewe played at Under 13 and Under 14 age groups respectively. Well done to all those players.
The third Studley Royal Academy was held over the 2009/10 winter. This was again a great success and will continue during the 2010/11 winter under the guidance this year of Andy Mackle and Matthew Coad, assisted by other young promising coaches within the Club.
Clubmark
David Harlock and Steve Harris continue to manage our Clubmark status, and a review with the North Yorkshire Cricket Development Officer, Ian Powell, was held in late October. It is proposed that Moira Bean is elected as Clubmark Secretary to ensure that the standard of our Clubmark accreditation is not only maintained but improved upon.
Finance
Quarterly accounts are submitted to the Management Committee by David Gee. It has been a difficult year with reduced income but increased expenditure on ground matters. A £7k profit in 2009 has been lost in 2010 by a 10% reduction in bar takings totalling £4k and a big increase in ground upkeep costs from £9k to £13k. At a EGM in January it was agreed that the loan period be extended, to allow an injection of £15k from Natwest, of which £9k was used to ease the continuing drainage problem which has cursed the Club in recent years, and £6k was used for Clubhouse refurbishment.
The full annual accounts will be presented at the AGM.
David Gee and Sue Coad have performed a very professional and detailed set of accounts, and they have been assisted by Robin Godden and Sarah Egan supplying income information.
Phillipa Oates continues to ensure much needed funds are raised by the 500 Club. New members are always required however.
In view of the financial position, it is proposed to change Subscriptions and Match Fees for 2011.
Subscriptions : Seniors £80, but discounted to £60 if paid by 1st April, and discounted to £50 if paid by the end of November 2010. Evening League Only players to be £15.
Subscriptions : Juniors £35 for the first child, £15 for the second child in a family and £10 for the third child in a family.
Senior Match Fees : Two proposals have been submitted. One is to increase all match fees by £1 per match, and the second proposal received is to increase the 1st and 2nd team by £2 and other Saturday teams by £1.
The Intermediate fee to increase to £5.
Junior Match Fees : The Under 9 and Under 11 fee to stay at £1, but from Under 13 to Under 17 to increase from £1.50 to £2.
Events
2010 saw The Nidderdale Cricket League host the 14th Air New Zealand International Golden Oldies Event. Teams, of players over 40 years of age, from all over the world played a week of cricket which will forever live in the memory of those involved. We were delighted to host 3 matches at Studley Royal in August 2010. We welcomed 3 Australian teams from Townsville, Brisbane and Melbourne and friends were made for life.
The question now is will this become a bi-annual event on the Club calendar. The next one is in November 2012 in Adelaide. Watch this space!!!
The Sportsmans Dinner made a welcome return, and our thanks as ever go to Steve Curtis for making this one of the memorable nights of the year.
All five of The Nidderdale Junior Finals were again played at Studley Royal in September.
Communications and Sponsorship
You will have again received this Annual Report via the Club Website and E-Mail System. We still do not use this to the extent that we could, but our thanks go to Iain Shaw and Par Conception for their continuing outstanding involvement in this development.
We are delighted to again retain our three main sponsors, AMG Leisure, Ripon Timber and Ripon Interiors, but to all our sponsors we say a very big thank you for all your support.
Ground and Facilities
Trevor Rose was recruited for 2010 and made an excellent start at the Club. Steve Harris at the Deer Park did a good job in getting wickets prepared each week, but a programme has started to improve the standard of the wicket. They have both performed sterling work all season. Many other players have also provided excellent support, however special mention must again go to Bob Sheldon and David Craven for all of their help on the outfield during the season.
The ground expenditure has continued to increase, but to continue our development and retain our better players while ensuring more availability to play as much cricket as possible, it is essential. It has been agreed that expenditure is also required at the Deer Park, but this will be limited due to National Trust regulations.
The Clubhouse management under Robin and Trudi Godden continues to generate the income which is so much needed for the progression of the Club. In the spring they worked tirelessly to decorate and refurnish the Clubhouse to ensure continued function room usage.

The Under 18 team will look to emulate their first successful winning season, plus the ever exciting youngsters coming through and keeping Studley Royal at the forefront of junior cricket in Yorkshire.
Studley Royal will continue to make their mark on the Yorkshire cricket world.
The performance of the Club off the field continues to improve, and as always thank you to the large number of dedicated volunteers who continue to make this Club such a success.

Successes so far - Tue 14th September 2010
Congratulations to Dan and all his Second Team players on becoming Nidderdale League Division Three Champions.
This is a great effort by everyone, and also reaching 100 points with one match still to play.
The First Team have also just finished a very good season, in 6th place at present in their first season in The Premier Division of The York & District Senior League. Another season for Steve and all of his players to be very proud of, and with more to look forward to in the future.
With the 3rd Team now safe in Division 5 and the 4th Team still in a promotion place, with everything resting on their ‘Cup Final’ this Saturday against Killinghall, plus the 5th Team finishing a good 3rd in Division 9 it has been a remarkable season.
Add to this the Intermediate Team winning The York & District Senior League Intermediate Division in their first season, plus the Under 13’s winning their League.
Still one more Saturday to go in the Nidderdale League, but it has already been a season for us all to be very proud of.

Golden Success - Mon 16th August 2010
I am always proud to say that I am Chairman of Studley Royal Cricket Club, but the standards of care, attention, friendship and cricket that we have given to our Australian cricket friends during The 14th Golden Oldies Cricket Festival has made me even prouder. We have made friends as individuals and as a Club which I think will last a lifetime.
Our Sub Committee first met last September to start the planning for our hosting of 3 matches. We discussed how good it would be but it has surpassed all of our expectations.
From last Sunday at the Opening Procession, during the matches, at the evening meetings and events, and right through to the closing Finale Dinner, Studley Royal can be proud of their representation at all of these and the enjoyment and friendship gained. None of this would have happened without some great efforts, and I select a few ‘thank yous’ below.
Martin Bean – What a Captain he proved to be. He was only asked to stand in at the last moment, but he excelled himself both on and off the field of play. It was a pleasure to have Martin as Captain.
Sarah Egan – All the organisation both before and on the days of play. A very hands on role, and also for the Presentation gifts which she had sewed and framed.
Brenda and Ken Walmsley with Sarah Egan – Catering of a standard which our visitors all said had never been bettered at any Golden Oldies Festivals.
Sue (and Dan/Ben) – for scoring at all 3 matches.
Bob and David – Ground preparation (although Bob was worried on Friday)
Trevor Rose for preparing the wickets.
David Harlock – Who started all the planning before he sadly had to depart to Australia due to his fathers illness.
Geoff Holroyd – For being at the ground at 8.00am making sure all was tidy and correct, and for general attendance and support as always.
Robin and Trudi – All the bar facilities.
Steve Curtis, Steve Harris, Colin Smith, Rodney Pickles, Robert Sowray and their wives for attending, and adding to the occasion, of so many of the various events.
All the players, supporters and other helpers – for being great.
We must also thank Sir Thomas Ingilby. Without the 3 years of planning by Sir Thomas, there would not have been a Festival in Nidderdale.
So thank you to everyone who made this such as success. The next Festival is in Adelaide in 2012.
Should we take a team? You bet we should.
Regards
Ken Coad
Chairman and Secretary.

John Barrett - Fri 2nd July 2010
It was with great sadness that the Nidderdale cricket world heard of the death of John Barrett this week.
Many of you will know John from his Junior League, Evening League and Umpire duties and a tribute from Sir Thomas Ingilby below does express the feeling that there was to John in this region.
John has been of great support to me personally, as I have taken over the role of Chairman and Secretary of the Nidderdale Junior League, and I will always be appreciative of the help and guidance he gave to me.
He will be sadly missed, and our sympathy is extended to his wife and family.
The funeral service will be at Pannal Church on Thursday 8th July at 2.30pm, and afterwards at The Harwood.
KEN COAD
We are sad to announce the death of John Barrett, who passed away peacefully in Harrogate Hospital during the night of 28th June. John has given a lifetime of dedication to Pannal CC, and his contribution to the League Management Committee in recent years has been massive: the evening and junior leagues both flourished under his supervision. Every club in the league and a whole generation of young cricketers owe him a huge debt of gratitude. John was presented with life membership of the league, and the first life members lapel pin to be given out, by league president Sir Thomas Ingilby on the outfield of his beloved ground at Pannal last month. He was universally respected and will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and the league extends its sympathy to his widow Daphne and his sons James and Jonathan.
Sir Thomas

Net facilities - Fri 4th June 2010
Dear Players, Members, Sponsors and Supporters,
We can all be very proud of the progress which we continue to make both on and off the field of play.
One area of success over the last 10 years has been the fixed nets installation, which we are so pleased to see is being used almost 365 days of the year (yes, in the depths of winter some of our members are still striving to improve their skills).
There comes a point however, when with such intense usage, wear and tear takes its toll, and it certainly has on the nets. Sadly last week one of our 1st Team players received a bad mouth wound, requiring 5 stitches. Our Committee have therefore decided that with immediate effect only one lane of the Nets will be in use, until further measures are taken to resolve this problem.
We have been in discussions, since earlier this year, to address the net problem. We urgently re-opened those negotiations this week.
We have attempted repair jobs before on the nets but the time has come when we must do more.
We MUST NEVER EXPOSE our juniors, nor indeed our Seniors, to the dangers which we witnessed last Friday night.
As a result of our negotiations we are aiming to:
1) Not only repair the nets, but to improve them to modern day standards.
We are discussing having a three lane netting bay, with 20m long dividing nets which are 4m high.
2) To safeguard the wear and tear on, in particular junior legs, resurface the surrounding area with30mm carpet and rubber granules .
To fund this we obviously need to quickly raise finance. Option 1 would cost approx £5k and Option 2 a further £6k.
ANY DONATIONS or LOANS SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS FUND WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
ANY IDEAS WOULD BE GRAETLY APPRECIATED.
PLEASE HELP FOR THE SAFETY SAKE OF ALL OUR PLAYERS AND VISITORS, AND FOR THE CONTINUED FUTURE PROGRESSION OF OUR GREAT CLUB.
Many Thanks in Advance of your potential responses

STUDLEY ROYAL CRICKET CLUB 2009 ANNUAL REPORT - Mon 16th November 2009
by the CHAIRMAN and TRUSTEES
To confirm the date that is in the Club Handbook, The Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 18th November 2009 at 8.00pm in the Clubhouse.
It is obviously in the best interest of the Club for as many members as possible to attend, however for those not able to be there, below is a summary of the year along with proposals received to date and the officials to be elected.
Playing
The best season in the history of the Club.
The 1st Team won Division 1 of The Hunters York and District Senior League, going unbeaten for the whole season.
The Under 15’s won The Yorkshire Cup, and progressed to the ECB North of England Final, finishing as Runners Up.
The Seniors again fielded 4 Saturday sides, with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams playing in The Nidderdale and District League Divisions 3, 5 and 8. All three sides were in contention for promotion during the season, with the 2nd team only finally being destined to another season in Division 3 on the last day of the season. The Evening League side retained their Division One status.
Season 2010 will see the exciting and challenging introduction of the Studley Royal 5th Team playing in Division 9 of The Nidderdale League.
This is further proof of the club development, and of the tremendous depth of talent which keeps coming through the junior section.
The 1st Team must however take all the senior accolades. The Championship was won with a completely home grown side, led by tremendous example by Steve ‘Cat’ Walmsley. Robert ‘Pup’ Nicholson had a fantastic season just missing out on 1000 runs for the season, but all the players can feel very proud of achieving the highest position in the Club history, and getting us into The Premiership League which is arguably one of the top three cricket leagues in Yorkshire.
The Junior section continues to strengthen and again Club history was made by the Under 15’s winning the Yorkshire Cup. They also won the League being unbeaten all season, and were Runners Up in The Bob Mellor Cup.
The Under 13 and Under 9 teams also got to the Divisional Play-Off Finals but both were Runners Up.
As with the exciting development of a 5th Team for the Seniors, the Junior Section also has an exciting development with a new Under 18 side being entered into The York & District Intermediate League.
Indoor cricket continues to help the players during the winter months, and we again dominated the 2008/09 season winning 3 of the 4 Age Groups.
Many juniors again played representative Nidderdale League matches, qualified for Yorkshire Pathway School of Excellence coaching and represented North Yorkshire and Yorkshire at various levels. George and Harry Lamb, George Foster and Ben Coad also played at Yorkshire County levels, with Ben Coad helping Yorkshire to win the ECB National Under 15 Cup beating Lancashire in the Final at Oakham.
The second Studley Royal Academy was held over the 2008/09 winter. This was again a great success and will continue during the 2009/10 winter under the guidance of Andy Mackle and Steve Walmsley, assisted by other young promising coaches within the Club.
Clubmark
David Harlock continues to manage our Clubmark status, and the three year review is now due for preparation.
Our Chairman, Ken Coad, has during 2008/09 been elected as Chairman and Secretary of The Nidderdale Junior Cricket League, and elected onto the Nidderdale League Management Committee.
Finance
Quarterly accounts are submitted to the Management Committee. The work put in by David Gee proved very valuable when we requested an extension to the Club Loan. An EGM was held on 14th October to approve the loan extension which retains the current monthly outgoings, while extending the loan period, but importantly granting an additional £15k, which is largely required to ease the continuing drainage problem which has cursed the Club in recent years.
The accounts will be presented at the AGM, but in summary we made around £7k operating profit which funded the loan repayments of £5k and the acquisition of a bowling machine costing £2k so we have had another financially successful year.
David Gee and Sue Coad have performed a very professional and detailed set of accounts, and they have been assisted by Robin Godden and Sarah Egan supplying income information.
The Subscriptions and Match Fees were amended in 2009, and it is proposed that they remain the same in 2010.
Events
2009 proved a difficult year with the Sportsmens Dinner and Race Night being cancelled this year due to the recessionary times we are in, and the Twenty20 was played with only three teams when Collingham were forced to call off at the eleventh hour. All five of The Nidderdale Junior Finals were however played to schedule on Sunday 6th September.
An Abba night raised £350 for Club Funds while also helping other local charities and other events were still held, and we thank everyone who supports our many and varied events, and please continue to support them as this certainly encourages the organisers to continue organising.
2010 will see The Nidderdale Cricket League hosting the International Golden Oldies Event. Teams, of players over 40 years of age, from all over the world will play a week of cricket around the Nidderdale area, and we are delighted to be hosting 3 matches at Studley Royal in August 2010.
Communications and Sponsorship
You will have again received this Annual Report via the Club Website and E-Mail System. We still do not use this to the extent that we could, but our thanks go to Iain Shaw and Par Conception for their continuing outstanding involvement in this development.
Sponsorship has never been more important to the Club than it is today. We have made tremendous progress both on and off the field of play, but as we continue to progress the financial demands to improve facilities increases. Robert Sowray, assisted by Sarah Egan, will continue to encourage sponsorship but it is down to all members to encourage more sponsorship whereever possible as we strive to provide facilities for all our local home grown players to continue their development.
We are delighted to again retain our three main sponsors, AMG Leisure,Ripon Timber and Ripon Interiors, but to all our sponsors we say a very big thank you for all your support.
Ground and Facilities
Chris Newton and Steve Harris, at the main ground and the Deer Park respectively, have performed sterling work all season. Many other players have also provided excellent support, however special mention must go to Bob Sheldon and David Craven for all of their help on the outfield during the season.
Chris Newton has worked closely with Masham Golf Club groundsmen to install the new drainage system. This should provide immediate drainage relief but their close season work on the square will also, over the next two years, bring the ground up to the required standard for The Premier Division of The York Senior League.
The ground expenditure is high, but to continue our development and retain our better players while ensuring more availability to play as much cricket as possible, it is essential.
The Clubhouse management under Robin and Trudie continues to generate the income which is so much needed for the progression of the Club. They have continued to expand the function room usage and have a very full diary of events.

U-15s Reach Last Eight Nationally - Wed 5th August 2009
Wednesday the 5th of August saw the ECB U15 National Club Cricket Championship North Regional Semis and Final. The four teams who had qualified were Warrington (Cheshire), Studley Royal (Yorkshire), Apperknowle (Derbyshire) and Tynemouth (Northumberland). The Semis were played at York CC and Clifton Alliance CC. Apperknowle played Warrington and Tynemouth played Studley Royal.
Studley skipper George Lamb won the toss and opted to bat. Nick Kimber and Ed Robinson went in and put on 22 before Kimber was run out on 16. Robinson went on to 20 before being caught off Lonnberg. The Lamb brother contributed another 11 runs before Angus Shaw looked to be getting established hitting 18 off 13 balls before running himself out. Rob Lowe fell cheaply and Elliot Oates went on 9 caught off Clark. Big Joe Ainscough then contributed 16 off 14 balls and Simon Evans was left with him not out for 4. The innings total of 102 off the 20 overs looked to be on the low side.
Ainscough opened the blowing for Studley with Evans and they restricted Tynemouth to 24 off their 8 overs. Stenhouse fell to a trade mark close catch by Kimber in Ainscough’s third over. Evans bowled 2 maidens going for only 10 runs off his 4 overs. Ainscough took 1 for 11 off his 4 overs with 1 wicket maiden. Shaw and George Lamb then came on with Shaw removing Straughan for 13 caught by George Lamb and returning figures of 1 for 20 off his 4 overs. George Lamb took no wickets for 17 off 3 overs. Lowe and Kimber then entered the attack with Tynemouth on 65 off 15 overs. Lowe took 2 for 19 off 3 and Kimber 1 for 16 off 2. The leadership shown by George Lamb and Shaw with Tynemouth needing only 6 runs to win off the last over was fantastic. Lowe, holding his nerve very well, bowled a cracking last over which went for only 4 runs and contained a brilliant stumping by U-12 wicket keeper George Foster. Studley won by 1 run and were into the ECB U15 National Club Cricket Championship North Regional Final against Warrington who had beaten Apperknowle convincingly.
The achievement of this Studley side to win through from nearly 1800 teams nationally to the last 8 must be stressed. No Nidderdale league side has ever gone this far in the competition and now Studley were faced with a Warrington side that had won the Cheshire Cup and had already beaten the Lancashire Cup holders in the County Playoff Round. Warrington with a population of 194,000 vs. Studley Royal, Ripon with a population of 15,922!
After only a half hour break Studley skipper George Lamb went out for the toss and won opting again to bat. In went Kimber and Robinson. Robinson fell to a brilliant Yorker from Chadderton for 5 in the third over and George Lamb fell for a duck in the fourth. Elliott Oates went in and steadied the innings. Kimber retired with a fine 50 off 52 balls. Shaw contributed 4 before being out LBW and Ainscough was forced to retire hurt on 7 off 5 balls. Rob Lowe contributed 5 and was not out with Oates who made 29 off 45 balls. The Studley total of 111 fell short of the 125 that the coach, manager and supporters had hoped for on what was obviously a good batting wicket.
The sides turned round and things could not have started better for Studley with Ainscough, bowling at half pace due to a muscle strain, removing opener Corcoran for nothing in the first over. Evans and Ainscough restricted Warrington to 25 for 1 off 5 overs before the Studley spinners came on. It was not to be their day with George Lamb going for 23 off his 4 overs. Rob Lowe took 1 for 14 off 3 and Evans coming back on took 1 for 26 off 4. With two overs to go Warrington needed 2 to win and a miracle was needed when Shaw took the ball for his fourth over. Things started well with two dot balls but the dream was dashed and with a huge 6 from Regan the game was lost and Warrington were the ECB U15 Northern Champions for 2009.
Robert Sowray who introduced most of this years Studley U15s to cricket when they started off in his Tykes was at York to watch and spoke to them in the changing room after the Final. He spoke for all those who have managed, coached, scored, supported and generally been involved with this years U15s in saying how proud everyone was of this side and our junior section generally. This side was chosen from a squad of great depth and character whom those that have watched hope to see go on and develop their game as U17s and as Seniors over the coming years. The younger members of the team I am sure will be back and will want to emulate the success of George Lambs 2009 U15s over the next few years. It is tantalizing to think that Josh Crewe has two more years at this age level and that Harry Lamb, George Foster, Will Shaw and Tom Bailey will still be playing at this age level in three years time.
Our Junior club sponsor Geoff Holroyd of Ripon Timber who watched both matches was also full of praise for the lads and we are lucky as a club to have such a generous supporter. Hopefully Geoff will have plenty more opportunities to watch Ripon Timber sponsored Studley junior teams progressing in national competitions over the coming years.
Those that have played for Studley in the 2009 ECB U15 National Club Cricket Championship are as follows:
George Lamb (Captain) U15
Angus Shaw (Vice Captain) U15
Ben Coad U15
Nick Kimber U15
Ed Robinson U15
Joe Ainscough U15
Rob Lowe U15
Nick Stuart U15
Elliott Oates U14
Simon Evans U14
Ben Nabarro U14
Scott Thompson (Keeper) U14
Josh Crewe U13
Harry Lamb U12
George Foster (Keeper) U12
Will Shaw U12
Tom Bailey U12
The U15s have two more matches this season both of which will be played on the 6th of September. 10.00am sees the Final of the Bob Mellor Cup at Knaresborough Forrest CC and then the afternoon the North section vs South section Nidderdale League U-15 Playoff Final which will be played at Studley Royal. Both matches are against Pannal A who like Studley have more than one side at this age group. |

U-15 side are ECB Yorkshire County Club Champions 2009 - Sun 28th June 2009
Expectations amongst players, management and supporters were running high when Studley Royal arrived at Hartshead Moor Cricket Club in West Yorkshire for the Semis and Final Day of the ECB U-15 County Club Champions (Yorkshire Region) on Sunday. The squad of twelve all arrived early so as to watch Guiseley play Darton in the first Semi of the day. What a match, tied on the last ball, with Guiseley through on the basis of having lost fewer wickets. So Studley then knew who they would face if they could win their Semi which to great surprise was not to be against North Leeds who had failed to get through but against Whitely Hall from South Yorkshire, like Studley unbeaten in their league this year.
So Studley skipper George Lamb went out for the toss and won opting to bat. With both the usual Studley openers Ed Robinson and Nick Kimber away on school trips in went Nick Stuart and Lamb. Stuart did the job asked of him and together with Lamb put on 22 and 26 respectively off 47 balls. Stuart fell to an excellent bit of fielding, run out, and Lamb was caught right on the boundary line by Stringer while attempting a second six back over the bowlers head! What Studley did not realise straight away was that Stuart had twisted his back which would result in 12th man U-12 Tom Bailey fielding with implications later in the day. U-14 Elliott Oates was the Studley number three and was off the mark quickly with a number of quick singles before being caught by Chadderton for 8 while Angus Shaw also fell cheaply for 5. Having got off to a good start Studley now looked a little shaky when Ben Coad walk purposefully to the wicket with the air of a man meaning business. Well what business, 29 off 17 balls including three straight sixes and suddenly the total looked much more respectable! U-14 Rob Lowe, U-12 Harry Lamb, U-14 Simon Evans, U-13 Josh Crewe and U-14 Ben Nabarro all paid brief visits to the crease and added another 21 runs between them putting Studley on a final total of 132 for 8 off their 20 overs.
After taking on fluids Studley turned round and the Whitely Hall openers Pickering and Martin came out to be faced by Ben Coad and U-14 Rob Lowe on blistering form. With two of the three older Studley seamers away much was on the shoulders of Coad and Lowe. They did not disappoint Coad bowled 4 overs for 14 runs and Lowe 3 overs for 18 runs. After seven overs Whitely Hall were very much contained by the Studley opening attack and now came the two older spinners who did what was expected of them. Lamb took the wickets of both openers returning figures of 2 for 22 off 4 overs and Shaw took out the number 3 returning figures of 1 for 22 off 4. Simon Evans and Josh Crewe then entered the attack returning excellent figures of 11 off 2 overs and 7 off 2 overs respectively. Mention here must be made of Studley wicketkeeper U-14 Scott Thompson who did not let anything past him. The last over fell to Harry Lamb and victory was Studley’s having restricted Whitely Hall to 109 runs off their 20 overs in an excellent game that was played in the best spirit of Yorkshire junior cricket.
So after a forty five minute break for the excellent refreshments kindly laid on by the hosts Hartshead Moor Cricket Club it was time for the Final against Guiseley. Once again the toss was won and Studley padded up with the officials hurriedly marking out the extra lines needed for Studley to deploy a runner for the injured Stuart. Studley skipper Lamb and Stuart organised themselves with Nabarro acting as the runner. Stuart did a brave job at one hitting 13 runs off 7 balls before being run out. Oates then joined Lamb at the wicket but had a rare off day being bowled for 2. The great Studley experiment of the day was then instigated with Harry Lamb walking out to the crease to join his brother. The Lamb brothers then dazzled everyone running up 45 and 44 runs respectively. George fell caught by Newark off Mountain. Angus Shaw joined Lamb junior in a supporting role hitting 13 off 13 balls before being caught by Chippendale off Reeve. Rob Lowe then batted out carrying his bat with young Lamb for 4 runs off 3 balls. The target set by Studley for Guiseley was 149 runs.
So Coad and Lowe again the Studley opening attack recoding figures of 7 runs with 1 maiden off 3 overs and 11 runs with 1 maiden off 3 overs respectively. Guiseley like Whitely Hall were well contained and it was time for the dynamic due of Lamb and Shaw to cast their leg and off spin spells once again. The wickets came with Lamb taking the wicket of Guiseley opener Pratt for 12 and Shaw bowling Mountain for 8, Walker for 14 and taking an excellent caught and bowled of Thompson for 2. Lamb’s figures were 1 wicket for 18 runs off 3 overs and Shaw’s 3 wickets for 10 runs off 3 overs. Lamb and Shaw showed once again just how dangerous they are when bowling together in tandem. Evans, Nabarro and Crewe all then were bowled returning figures of 7 runs for 1 wicket off 2 overs, 10 runs for 0 wickets off 2 overs and 9 runs for 1 wicket off 2 overs. Finally Elliott Oates was unleashed demonstrating the incredibly spin he can put on the ball going for only 3 runs off 2 overs including 1 maiden. At the close of their 20 overs Guiseley had scored 80 runs and Studley were the 2009 ECB U-15 County Club Champions (Yorkshire region) by 69 runs.
There was then a fifteen minute break while the presentation table was set up before Stephen Pickles the ECB county organiser for Yorkshire spoke to the two sides, management and supporters. The achievement of both sides to reach the final was made clear when Mr. Pickles told everyone that 180 teams from Yorkshire had entered the competition this year and that the Yorkshire Region was the largest county club competition in the United Kingdom. Guiseley were presented with their runners up mementos and then the winner’s medals were presented to all twelve of the Studley squad for the day before George Lamb came up again to be presented with the ECB U-15 Club Championship County Winners Trophy for 2009. Pictures were then taken and congratulations given all round.
Studley now progress to the national stages of the competitions playing the County Durham champions at Studley’s Galphay Road ground on the 19th of July at 2.30pm.

U-15 Bob Mellor Cup defence moves on to final - Fri 26th June 2009
The Studley Royal U-15 A side are through to the final of the Bob Mellor Cup for the second year running and will defend the trophy won last year by Ben Crewe’s side at Knaresborough Forest Cricket Club on the 17th July at 6.15pm.
The Semi Final was an excellent match played against Harrogate A on the old county ground at St. George’s Road, Harrogate. Harrogate won the toss and opted to bat. Studley got off to a good start with Joe Ainscough dismissing Harrogate openers Griffin and Halliday for 3 and 8 respectively and then Hammond for 2. Kempley and Roberts steadied the Harrogate innings both retiring on 35. Angus Shaw took the wicket of Edmundson for 1 and Rob Lowe that of Davidson for 3. Wetherald and Walsh were not out on 16 and 3 at the end of Harrogate’s 22 overs. Ainscough recorded the best bowling figures with 3 wickets for 22 runs off his 5 overs and skipper George Lamb looked on excellent form just when his team need him to be.
So with the target of 123 to win and the light failing fast Studley went into bat with an experimental opening partnership of Ed Robinson and Nick Stuart. Harrogate opening bowlers Griffin and Wetherald pegged them back in their spells although runs came slowly. Stuart was the first wicket to fall to Roberts for 19 off 25 balls. Robinson then was run out through an excellent direct hit for 28 off 37 balls. Lamb was then joined at the crease by Shaw and both skipper and his assistant quickly ran up the runs before Shaw went for 11. Ainscough made a brief appearance before Kempley added his scalp giving him 3 wickets for 19 runs off his 5 overs. Lowe went cheaply for 3 caught Roberts and then Evans and U-12 Harry Lamb both ran themselves out in the scramble for the final runs needed off the remaining three overs. Evans recorded 10 off the 8 balls he faced which made the difference.
So as in the early clash between these two sides in the ECB National U-15 Club Cup it all came down to the last over with U-12 Will Shaw having joined Lamb at the crease and finding himself with one run and facing. Following instructions Shaw junior nudged a single and put Lamb back on strike. Lamb then hit a nice shot that was well fielded adding another single and putting Shaw back on strike with 2 runs needed off three balls. Halliday bowled a swift ball with excellent line and length but Shaw with that impetuosity of an U-12 placed it neatly between the keeper and the slip and as it raced away he and Lamb ran the two needed. Shaw junior not out for 4 and the match won with three balls to spare!
This was a match played in a highly competitive manner between two teams of young men that all want to win and many of whom play representative cricket with each other at various levels. Both sides can be quite vocal at times however they play very much in the spirit of cricket. Being on opposite sides of the Nidderdale U-15 league leaves open the tantalising possibility that they could meet again in September if they both reach the playoff finals day.
Studley U-15 1st XI now move on to the ECB National U-15 Club Cup Semi Finals at Hartshead Moor Cricket Club at 12.30pm this Sunday. The side available and selceted is as follows: George Lamb, Angus Shaw, Ben Coad, Nick Stuart, Elliot Oates, Rob Lowe, Simon Evans, Harry Lamb, Ben Nabarro, Josh Crewe, Scott Thompson and Tom Bailey (12th Man). The side will meet at Hartshead Moor Cricket Club no later than 11.30am.

Studley U-15s Defeat Upper Haugh in ECB National Cup - Sun 21st June 2009
Batting first, against Barnsley U-15 league leaders Upper Haugh, Studley Royal had an off day hitting only 113 runs for 9 wickets off 20 overs. The Studley innings was steadied by an excellent workman like 30 from U-14 Elliott Oates coming in at number 5. Words of encouragement were spoken by Studley Captain George Lamb and reinforced vocally by Vice Captain Angus Shaw in the changing room between innings. Yorkshire U-15 opening bowler Ben Coad then came steaming in and showed the large crowd of supporters that had gathered his class with a withering display of fast bowling returning figures of 2 wickets for 3 runs off 4 overs including 2 maidens. U-14 Rob Lowe supported Coad from the other end with figures of 1 wicket for 4 runs off 4 overs again including 2 maidens. Nick Kimber was rested from the attack but his presence was felt taking 2 first class close catches. The spinning duo of Lamb and Shaw then entered the attack returning figures of 4 wickets for 6 runs off 3 overs and 3 wickets for 3 runs off 2.3 overs respectively. Upper Haugh were all out for 19 runs off 13.3 overs and left Studley for the safety of South Yorkshire in a state of shocked bewilderment after the withering assault from Coad and Lowe followed by the spinning wizardry of the dynamic duo of Lamb and Shaw. Studley now progress to the Semis and Final day of the Yorkshire Region at Hartshead Moor Cricket Club in West Yorkshire on Sunday the 28th June.
Studley now face North Leeds in the Semi Final at Hartshead Moor Cricket Club on Sunday the 28th of June and if successful would contest the Yorkshire Region Final later in the day.

Studley U-15s leave it late in ECB U-15 National Cup win over Ha - Thu 4th June 2009
On a cold evening at Galphay Road Studley Royal defeated Harrogate in a finish that went down to the penultimate ball of the match. Winning the toss Harrogate opted to bat and knocked off 117 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs. Griffin was the pick of the Harrogate batsman with 50 retired with Singh and Hammond hitting 18 and 19 respectively. For Studley Kimber was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 22 off 4, Ainscough 1 for 17 off 4, Shaw 1 for 22 off 4 and U-12 Harry Lamb a creditable 1 for 19 off 3. Studley keeper Thompson only had three runs recorded against him in a fine display. Turning round Studley went into bat and proceeded to unsettle their loyal supporters when Kimber fell cheaply to an excellent delivery from Wetherald and then Shaw attempting to come back for 4 off an over throw was run out. George Lamb proceeded to steady the ship building an excellent partnership with opener Robinson who again showed what excellent form he is in with bat retiring on 51. Lamb eventually was run out while pushing the runs along with some very quick singles. Oates then came to the wicket and proved his place in the side with an excellent fast 16 not out and was supported in the last two overs by Ainscough who showed his immense strength hitting the winning 4 off the penultimate ball of the twentieth over. Mention should also be made of Nabarro who saved atleast 10 runs in the field for Studley with his speed and arm. Nabarro and Evans also bowled economically and Stuart was his usual tower of strength in the field.
The next round of the ECB National U-15 Cup (Yorkshire Region) sees Studley playing either Northowram Hedge Top or Scholes from West Yorkshire. This match will see the return to the side of Studley’s Yorkshire U-15 seamer Ben Coad who was absent from the Harrogate match on county duty.

2nds defeat local rivals Ripon - Sat 18th April 2009
Ripon 2 208-9 (45 overs)
SRCC 2 210-5 (44.5 overs)
SRCC 2 (5pts) bt Ripon 2 (1pt) by 5 wickets
This was a fabulous start to the season for the 2s – a hard fought victory in a very close match. Skipper won the toss and put them in on a good track. Simon Bulmer made a great start to his Studley career bowling their opener with an absolute jaffer in the first over that hit the top of off. Their no 3 (Nel) proceeded to hit the ball in the air and managed to just put it out of the reach of the fielders. Once he got going, he was in good nick, and by the time he was out for 79, Ripon were on 101 in the 22nd over. We pegged things back well and picked up wickets throughout the second half of the innings. Ben Crewe (2), Choppy (3), Coady B (1) and Marsie (2) picked up more wickets. The two Bens showed they had put on a foot in height and a yard in pace over the winter, while Marsie showed no sign of his advancing years as he came on and bowled 6 good overs at the death. Special mention to Simon Bulmer (Bully is a possible nick name – we need more suggestions) who bowled with aggression and accuracy on debut.
We did not finish bowling until 4.50 – two main reasons: (1) bowlers must get back to their marks quicker – we meander back! and (2) the umpires wasted a lot of time (but it was great to have them, even if I did have to keep explaining the rules about junior bowlers to them!). We can do something about (1) and need to!
Mark L and Coady D put on 44 in 14 overs before Mark went for 19, showing for the 10th year running, he has one more season in him. Choppy Lamb played well for 18 off 22 balls before Ben Crewe joined Dan, putting on 71 together picking up the rate nicely. We had been on 67 after 20, 112 after 30, and when Ben went for 36, we were on 142 after 36. Skipper did not last too long, bringing in Simon Bulmer who had recovered from cramp. Ripon set the whole field deep and gave too many singles away, while Dan was stepping things up and batting beautifully (unless you’re Cat reading this, when he was very sketchy and lucky). Dan fell for a superb 90 with a couple of overs left. Josh (aka “the finisher”) came in as tension mounted. 8 were needed at the start of the last over, and then 5 off 3 balls. At that point, Josh played the shot of the day, stepping across his stumps to flick a ball from off stump down the leg side between 2 fielders for 4. Josh then hit the winning runs off the penultimate ball in the gloom.
Matt Coady and Pup joined us in the dressing room for a little sing song (how many Fosters had they drunk? £1 a can may explain it) at the end of a very enjoyable match.
Next week, West Tanfield (who beat Newby 2 today) at home. No Simon Bulmer, but Mark Sim will be back.
Elsewhere – good victory for the 3s (Ed Harlock 80) but defeat for the 4s (rarely does it take longer to drive to a game than the game lasts – but Spennymore are new to the league and should be several divisions higher – Kenneth proudly told us how he batted for a third of the innings, for 0).

U-15's Win Bob Mellor Cup - Fri 18th July 2008
The 40th Final of the Bob Mellor Cup was played on Friday the 18th July at Knaresborough Forest CC between Studley Royal CC U-15s and Knaresborough CC U-15s. Studley Captain Ben Crewe won the toss and elected to bat. Knaresborough Captain Peter Barnes turned this decision on Studley with his opening bowlers Graham Whiles and Alex Gates dismissing Studley openers Crewe, Edward Robinson and then George Lamb very cheapy. Whiles recorded figures of 5 overs for 17 runs and 2 wickets and Gates 4 overs for 18 runs and 2 wickets. Crewe showed his mettle as an excellent captain with a few well chosen words to Nick Kimber and Tim Gilliatt who were able to steady the Studley innings putting on 35 retired and 24 out respectively. Barnes with 5 overs for 20 runs and 2 wickets together with James Webster 4 overs for 17 runs and 2 wickets brought some control back with the dismissal of big hitter Angus Shaw, Ben Coad, Jonathan Coates and Nick Stuart fairly cheaply. At the end of the Studley 22 overs Knaresborough had contained Studley to 92 runs for 8 wickets.
Barnes and Webster got the Knaresborough innings off to a fine start and were well on target with 31 runs off the first 6 overs for the loss of no wickets. Crewe then brought on the tried and tested Studley off and leg spinning partnership of Shaw and Lamb. Shaw bowled 5 overs with 1 maiden for 17 runs and 1 wicket. Lamb produced figures of 5 overs for 10 runs and 2 wickets. Barnes went for 22 and Webster 11. With Knaresborough on 56 runs for 3 Studley were forced into a bowling change and turned to Nick Kimber who was faced with George Hobson on big hitting form. This proved to be an epic dual between bowler and batsman with Kimber finally dismissing Hobson with a fantastic leg stump yorker. Hobson had amassed 23 runs off only 20 balls including one massive 6. With Knaresborough needing 10 runs to win off the last over it was always possible but Coad bowled very tightly and Knaresborough finished 5 runs short. Coad finished with figures of 4 overs for 19 runs.
Studley wicket-keeper Coates deserve special mention for conceding only one bye in the entire Knaresborough innings as does the fielding of Cameron Leader and Joe Harris which was excellent.
This was only the forth win in the Bob Mellor Cup for Studley in its 40 year history and with a young side Studley look forward to defending the Cup it in 2009! It should also be remembered that Studley have actually only had a Junior Section for 14 years!

U15's defeat the South Africans! - Mon 30th June 2008
In the lovely evening sunshine the U15's produced a fantastic display to beat Reddham School, Capetown by 27 runs. After the U15's starting poorly from some excellent bowling, George lamb (52) and Ed Robinson (18) got Studley back on track and with Nick Kimber (20) hitting some quick runs to produce a good total of 116. Some very tight bowling kept Reddham's run rate down and they never really got going, the U15's bowled very tightly with Angus Shaw (3-17), George Lamb (3-1) and Joe Ainscough (3-15). A very good performance from the U15's. |

U15's vs. South African Touring Team from Cape Town - Mon 23rd June 2008
Monday 30th June sees Ben Crewe’s Studley Under 15 side playing a touring School team, from Cape Town at the New Ground. This will show off Ripon’s finest against some of Cape Town’s and promises 30 overs of fireworks! The match starts at 6pm sharp and the club house will be open with a small presentation being made to our South Africans tourists at the close of play. Tykes will be run on the out field but without the usual U-15 helpers and we hope as many Tykes, other juniors and senior players will be able to cheer on the bigger lads out in the middle! The bar will be open throughout the evening for light refreshment! |

U15's smash Pannal B - Sun 22nd June 2008
The U15's arrived at Pannal on a very windy day and won the toss and elected to bat, Ben Crewe and Ed Robinson again got us off to a great start both of whom retired at 35, Tim Gilliatt added impertous to the innings retiring quickly and George Lamb making a quick 22, we finished on 175 and this was always going to be a too bigger target for Pannal B. The boys ended up comftable winners and this result takes them top at least for the time being. |
